Biography Arie van BEEK conductor

Arie van Beek studied percussion and worked for four years as percussionist with the radio orchestras of the Nederlanse Omroep Stichting. He also studied conducting with, amongst others, Edo de Waart and David Porcelijn. Arie van Beek has been Musical Director of the Orchestre d' Auvergne since November 1994. He also works at the Rotterdam Conservatoire, where he conducts the Rotterdam Young Philharmonic, as well as instrumental ensembles, attracting national and internationel press attention. He has conducted special series, for example Berlioz/Boulez, Monteverdi/Berio, Beethoven/Zimmermann. He is the prinipal conductor of the Doelenensemble in Rotterdam which specializes in 20th century repertoire and contemporary music and with whom he has made numerous recordings. In November 2003 the city of Rotterdam awarded with the Elly Ameling Price, for his work as a conductor during the last 30 years in Rotterdam. Arie van Beek has guest conducted in Holland ( the Brabants Orchestra, the Noordhollands Philharmonic Orchestra, The Rotterdam Young Philharmonic, the Doelenensemble, the ASKO ensemble, the Nieuw Ensemble, the Nationaal Ballet, the Nederlans Danstheater ), in France ( the Avignon Opera Orchestra, the Orchestra of Poitu-Charentes ), in Sweden ( the Orchestras of Örebrö, Sundsvall and Linköping ), in Switzerland ( the Lugano Radio Orchestra ), in Germany ( the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Orchester Frankfurt-Oder )in the Czeck Republic ( the Pardubice Chamber Orchestra ).In coming seasons, he has been invited : -Die Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie - l'Orchestre Lyrique région Avignon -l'Orchestre Poitou-Charentes - l'Orchestre de Lyon - l'Orchestre Basse Normandie - l'Orchestre Pays de Savoie - l'Orchestre de Cannes - l'Orchestre de Grenade - Het Brabants Orkest - Het Orkest van het Oosten - l'Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France - l'Orchestre de Picardie - l'Ensemble orchestral contemoprain de Lyon Arie van Beek's large repertoire streches from the baroque period right up to 21st century works. He has conducted chamber- and symphonic orchestras, operas, ballets, oratorios and all types of stage music including works for children ( for example Benjamin Brittens "Noyes Fludde"). He finds inspiration for baroque and classical style in the work of conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Roy Goodman, Frans Brüggen, Fabio Biondi..... He has made numerous recordings with the Orchestre d'Auvergne, the Linpöping Blasarsymfoniker, the Doelenensemble, the Rotterdam Young Philharmonic and the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie for EMI, BIS, Olympia, Channel Classics, Calliope, Composers Voice and Joan Records.
